Neon lights are an inseparable element of our cities, during the day it looks inconspicuous, only at night the reveal their uniqueness. They are already over a hundred years old, and all the time they delight with their appearance and charm. Neon lights are nothing but glass tubes filled with gas - neon, argon and mercury. The principle of their work is very simple, under the influence of the voltage applied to the end of the tubes in the middle, electrical discharges occur, and this results in the glow of the gas inside.
Neon lights are made of two basic types of tubes- transparent pipes and coloured glass.
Transparent pipes after turning off are transparent or white. In the inside of tubes is a special phosphor ensuring adequate colour. This is a cheaper type of neon.
The other type of tube is coloured glass in bulk, after turning off preserving the colour.
The biggest challenge in the manufacture of neon lights is the appropriate design of glass tubes in projected schemes.
